I’m honored to be a new member of this community, and look forward to making new friends here. I’ve been very impressed with how nice and welcoming everyone has been.
A little bit about me… I’m originally from Romania. I moved to the US when I was 10 years old. I lived in Chicago for about a year before moving with my family to Arizona, where I just moved again in August of 2017 after being away for school. Places I’ve lived in while in school include California, Kentucky, Nebraska, and more recently, Minnesota. I’m working on finishing my PhD in Psychology; am ABD (all but dissertation), and am in the process of completing this last step before looking for employment. I also have an MBA and graduate certificates in developmental disabilities and gerontology, and hope to pursue a career in the field of aging. I’ve worked as a case manager, legal manager, family support specialist, and mental health counselor, and I’ve also held some jobs in IT. I love technology and enjoy promoting education in gaming.
I run a Minecraft server but I hardly ever play as I’m usually working while I’m online moderating and cheering people on. I guess mostly I play vicariously but I do look forward to playing some games with other folks on this community. Path of Exile looks interesting but also complex (part of the appeal), and I could use some help learning to play it. I sometimes enjoy playing The Sims 4, but my history with The Sims can probably best be described as a love/hate one. I will play it for a time then completely quit for a few years and then return back to it. I’m a night owl and am online at night a lot. I usually end up getting to know people in other time zones which this schedule, which is great. I would also enjoy getting to know any Romanians or Arizona residents who may be members of this clan J.
What else… I have played many MMORPG’s and other games throughout my long time as a gamer… Some that I can recall right now include:
Some of my very first games include:
text based MUD’s
Prince of Persia
I also like playing games like chess and scrabble, while I'm not particularly into card, racing, or sports games.
Besides making friends who share a passion for gaming, my goals here are to pick up and join some of the games y’all play regularly, and to explore ways, and find support, through which to evolve my own identity as a gamer. Like many of you, I started and continued gaming because I found the games themselves fun and entertaining and I learned that there are many other gamers who are also cool and decent people. As gaming continued to be a constant in my life throughout good times and bad times, and through times that were particularly salient to my growth and maturity as an individual, friend, and professional, I found myself reflecting more and more on the meaning of gaming in people's lives, on its pros and cons for myself and others in different stages and contexts in life, and on the way gaming can be leveraged toward promoting health and well-being.
I not only have an interest in playing games buy have become more and more interested in learning how others engage with games, in exploring the impact gaming has on individuals throughout the lifespan, and in integrating gaming toward helping people, both personally and professionally.
This has inspired me to venture into the realm of server ownership and to use the Minecraft server I have run since 2014 as a platform to promote and facilitate education and certain types of activities and interactions that further my own interests for growth as well as to contribute positively to the gaming community. In addition to making some friends here, picking up some new games and playing them with fellow clan members, I may wish to host other games besides Minecraft, and accomplish additional goals of the noble and useful variety in niche markets and unique styles. I welcome collaboration, recommendations, and additional insights into these pursuits as I am most certain of one thing: I cannot and do not wish to do it alone.
I want to make it clear though that I do not wish to pursue anything that is against this community's spirit or regulations, or that lacks full backing/approval of the owners/admins. While I'm sharing some tentative intents here, I also want to emphasize that I aim to be fully compliant and respectful of this community's rules and priorities.
With regards to the list of games I shared, I hope to replay some of these games and to also play additional games in series that I have not played yet with members in this community. While I eventually hope to host more servers, for these and maybe other games, disclosing what I have so far is more than enough for this introduction. I hope to follow up with another post at some point in the near future with more information about which games I'd like to play and/or host and I hope that those interested in playing with me or contributing time or specialized expertise in helping with hosting endeavors will let me know.
I also do have a pretty busy life and am still new to this community so there is still much I have to learn. I also want to contribute toward helping this community with its needs and goals so please don't hesitate to call on me and I will do what I can to help. Just don't ask for money because I'm currently quite broke. In the upcoming weeks/months please be patient with me while I may lurk in some Discord channels, make noob mistakes, and maybe ask some weird questions. Feel free to recommend games to me, provide feedback and suggestions, and ask me questions.
Thank you for welcoming me; I am very glad to be here, and look forward to growing as part of this awesome community as well as to helping it grow!
BUILD EACH OTHER UP!
